Pet Halloween Costumes

Halloween can be a fun and scary time for both you and your pets.  You need to be aware of the dangers of pet Halloween costumes if you are planning on dressing your pet in a costume.  Some of the things you need to look for are:

1.        The costume should be easy to get on and off of your pet.  The ideal pet costume should slip over their head and then fasten around their body.  This way you don’t have to bend and twist your pet to get the costume on or off.

2.       The costume should fit securely, but should allow for easy removal if your pet gets upset or needs to get out of the costume fast.  It needs to fit snuggly enough so that it doesn’t slip off and cause a tripping hazard for your pet.

3.       The costume should not block your pet’s vision.  If your pet’s vision is blocked, they could panic and become aggressive.  The costume should also allow your pet to easily breathe and hear.

4.       The pet costume should not have small parts that your pet can reach and possibly chew off.  Small objects that can be pulled or chewed off could cause a choking hazard.

5.       You want to make sure that your pet’s back side is not blocked because you can guarantee they will need to use the bathroom while they are in the costume.  Costumes that end at the waist are usually your best bet for avoiding messes and issues.

Keeping these dangers of pet Halloween costumes in mind, you and your pet should have a great Halloween.  Your pet will receive a lot of attention in their costume and as long as they’re comfortable, they might be willing to try it again next year.
